Mike Leidig Sends Ana Image And Meeting Details To Helfen Wir Contact After Telegraph-Linked Romania Story

This 11 September 2006 email records Michael Leidig writing to Hannes Urban of Helfen Wir, meaning “We Help”, after Urban had offered to “point me in the right direction”. Leidig asks that his secretary be sent details for a Thursday meeting, says he is attaching “a picture of Ana” for information, and adds that documents are being prepared in English while asking whether a German translation is also needed. The document appears to relate to Ana, the Romanian girl Leidig met while working on a Telegraph-linked story, whose family later asked for help obtaining medical treatment in Western Europe. In that context, the email is significant because it records the practical humanitarian follow-up connected to CEN and Journalism Without Borders activity: arranging meetings, preparing documents, sharing images and coordinating with Helfen Wir rather than simply producing a newspaper story. In the wider evidence chain, it helps show the broader work that sat behind or alongside CEN’s journalism, including cases where reporting contacts led to real-world assistance for vulnerable individuals, medical treatment arrangements and charitable support.
