Hospital Verification Confirms Helfen Wir Donation For Chinese Girl’s Treatment

This May 2010 email chain records Linda Lew forwarding a hospital verification document relating to the “Avatar girl” medical support case. The attached verification, translated in the email, is from the Zhong Shan University Stomatology Institute / Associated Stomatology Hospital and addressed to Helfen Wir in Austria. It states that the hospital was aware of the charity’s donation to Miss Wu Xiao Yan and guaranteed that the money would be used for her treatment, while also providing hospital bank account details for the transfer. Earlier messages in the chain show Hannes Urban of Helfen Wir asking for the document by email, explaining that an invoice was not needed because Helfen Wir was donating only part of the cost, but that written confirmation was required showing the bank details and confirming that the donation was for the girl’s operation. The document is significant because it records the accountability stage of the Journalism Without Borders / Helfen Wir support work: before money was transferred, the charity sought written hospital verification that the funds would be used for the intended medical purpose. In the wider evidence chain, it helps show that the CEN-linked humanitarian activity was not informal or careless fundraising, but involved documented checks, hospital confirmation, bank details, translation, and oversight by a registered Austrian charity. Read alongside the earlier correspondence about the Chinese girl’s case, consent, contracts and medical support arrangements, it helps demonstrate the practical safeguards around donations and treatment funding.
