Campaign Article – BuzzFeed 2014 Hires Including Richard James

Screenshot of Will Hayward’s 10 December 2014 Campaign article, “Why 2014 was such a significant year for Buzzfeed,” in which BuzzFeed’s vice president of Europe described 2014 as a tipping point for BuzzFeed UK. The article records that the UK team had grown to more than 50 people and specifically says Richard James had joined from Metro, alongside Robert Colvile from The Telegraph and Emily Ashton from The Sun. It is included as a Source Library record because Richard James had previously worked at Metro, where CEN material was used, and later appeared inside BuzzFeed during the period when its team was investigating CEN. The article is relevant to the book’s account of institutional memory, prior agency relationships and the question of why people with direct experience of CEN material did not volunteer that context during the BuzzFeed investigation.
