BuzzFeed Finds CEN Copy Is In Picture Feed

This 20 April 2015 email records BuzzFeed discovering that the Lucita Sandoval copy was present in its own agency picture-feed material, not only as a separate story file. Tom Phillips tells Alan White and Craig Silverman that the full story text appears in the picture caption material, prompting White to reply: “BRILLIANT Lets shift it to the top.” The document is significant because, five days before publication, BuzzFeed still appears not to have fully understood that the original CEN copy was already available through its own feed of agency picture content. Mike Leidig, CEN founder, says this reflected a standard agency practice used because stories and pictures were often separated when passing through editorial systems: at clients’ request, CEN included the full story in the picture caption or description so picture desks could assess images with proper editorial context.
