Heidi Blake And Mark Schoofs Brought Into BuzzFeed CEN Story Discussions

This 16 January 2015 email chain shows BuzzFeed discussing plans for senior investigative figures Heidi Blake and Mark Schoofs to interview and then come into the BuzzFeed UK office to meet the wider team and discuss the developing CEN story. The document is significant because it records that the CEN investigation was not being handled only as a routine viral-news desk story, but was being escalated to, or at least discussed with, senior BuzzFeed investigative staff before publication. It should be read alongside later documents in which Luke Lewis says the published article “wasn’t Heidi investigation” while also acknowledging that Heidi Blake advised on it and helped make it “awesome and bulletproof”, because together they help document the level of senior editorial involvement, internal confidence-building and investigative branding around the BuzzFeed/CEN narrative.
