BuzzFeed Later Email Branch Adds Alan White’s “Raw Copy” Proof Problem To Colvile Warning

This 25 March 2015 email chain is a later or extended branch of the same discussion captured in BuzzFeed_005578, where Robert Colvile warned that the draft risked undermining itself if BuzzFeed could not prove CEN had supplied the words as well as the images. The repeated material includes Colvile’s “galactically unhappy” warning, his request to “move heaven and earth” to verify the CEN copy through friendly publication contacts, and his question about whether BuzzFeed had a subscription feed or was relying on similarity of text. What this version adds is Alan White’s later reply, in which he says that proving CEN supplied the copy is “the real issue” and that there is “no easy way to get the raw copy”. White says BuzzFeed can be “99% sure” because the same quotes appear across multiple versions and asks where else they could have come from, but that is still an inference rather than raw proof of what CEN supplied. The document is therefore useful as a cross-reference to BuzzFeed_005578 because it preserves the same core warning while adding White’s more explicit acknowledgement that the raw-copy problem remained unresolved.
