TVN Refuses To Authorise Statement On Kontakt24 Santa Story

Email forwarded by Tomasz Orynski to BuzzFeed lawyer Kate Bolger in December 2016, summarising his attempt to obtain an authorised statement from TVN about the Polish Santa story. Tomasz said he had asked whether TVN had agreed to CEN using the material and whether the original Kontakt24 upload by Zdzislaw Molodynski had been edited. He recorded that Aleksandra Majda of TVN had provided wording saying TVN had no record of CEN being a regular partner and that, after publication as a news item, the Kontakt24 user could not edit it. However, TVN could not say whether the user had edited the story in the first two hours after upload. The key value of this document is the later reversal. Tomasz said Majda then told him she could not give a statement because her superiors had not authorised it. He translated this as: “Unfortunately I cannot give you a statement. My superiors did not allow it. I am sorry.” Tomasz added his own conclusion that TVN “just simply did not wanted to have anything to do with that story.” This supports the point that TVN appeared to step back from the problem once the issue became contentious.
