This document is a short internal BuzzFeed email sent by Luke Lewis on 25 April 2015, the day BuzzFeed published its article attacking CEN and Mike Leidig. The message was sent to Alan White, Craig Silverman, Tom Phillips and Robert Colvile under the subject line “CEN”. Its importance lies in the language used immediately after publication. Lewis asks: “So what comes next? How do we follow up keep up the pressure?” He then adds that if any publisher did not “immediately stop dealing with CEN”, it would “look terrible for them”, and asks whether BuzzFeed should “ring round on Monday”. The document is useful evidence that the BuzzFeed article was not being treated internally merely as a published investigation left for readers to assess. The discussion had already moved to follow-up pressure on publishers who continued to use CEN. That supports the argument that the article functioned not only as journalism, but as part of a wider attempt to isolate CEN commercially and reputationally from its media clients.
