TVN Statement To Tomasz Orynski On Kontakt24 Santa Story

Email forwarded by Tomasz Orynski to BuzzFeed lawyer Kate Bolger in December 2016, containing a June 2015 response from TVN spokesperson Emilia Ordon about the Polish Santa story. TVN said that once a Kontakt24 reader-uploaded story was checked and published as a news item, the user could no longer edit it. However, TVN also said that, because of a new computer system, it could not say whether Zdzislaw Molodynski had edited the story during the first two hours after uploading it. The document is significant because it does not prove that the disputed “drunk Santa” wording was never present. Instead, it leaves open the possibility that an earlier reader-reporter version existed, was later changed, and was no longer saved aftyer that and therefore no longer available. Tomasz’s email to TVN also shows the framing being put to the broadcaster: that CEN claimed the information had come from TVN/Kontakt24, while TVN was being urged to distance itself from CEN before BuzzFeed published its follow-up.
